Queens of the Stone Age – Feb 15

Queens of the Stone Age is performing February 15th at Sala La Riviera in Madrid. This is certainly something to plan a vacation around; or something to work into the itinerary of a preexisting one. And even if you don’t call yourself a fan because at one time, you know, you really liked them… but you’ve kinda moved on… and now you listen to different music and it’s just something you really relate to a younger you… It’s still no excuse.

If a name like Queens of the Stone Age still eludes your memory, their music shouldn’t:

QotSA – Go With the Flow

Originally, Josh Homme, vocalist, was banking on ‘Gamma Ray’ as a name to accompany the music, but that was way too logical. He needed to go with something that was completely nonsensical and lacked any relevance to his music or the band. Jackpot! Queens of the Stone Age was born, released 6 albums, cycled through a bevy of members, and will arrive in Madrid next month.

If you are interested in familiarizing yourself with the band, ‘Songs for the Deaf’ is an album to ease into. I can’t honestly say that I’ve listened to any of their subsequent albums, but by visiting their MySpace, you can sample the variety of a sound they’ve labeled as Robot Rock.

  1. umm the reason he Homme couldn’t use Gamma Ray was because it was already the name of some German (I think…?) band and that caused problems.

Queens of the Stone Age was chosen because they couldn’t use “Kings of the Stone Age.” It sounded weird or something.

  2. I know, it was a joke. I appreciate the response. And you’re right, “Kings of the Stone Age” just doesn’t sounds as cool as what they went with.
